What is Verb Tenses?

It refers to when the action takes place, whether it's from the past, present, or soon to happen in the future. (Waiden University) Easy as that, take note of that important description!

Verb words changes its form depending on the context or sentence, such as adding affixes, or changing spellings slightly, to classify whether it already happened, currently happening, or something that will happen in the future.


PAST       |        PRESENT       |     FUTURE




Past Tense

Shows past time not continuing to the present. 

  • Sam studied English yesterday
  • John brushed his teeth earlier
  • The concert happened last week


Present Tense

Shows an action presently or habitually happening, or a fact or general truth

  • I study English every day
  • Paul sings his favorite song
  • Harvard University is in Massachusetts


Future Tense

Shows that something will happen or will be done in the future

  • I will study English later
  • Randy will bring his dog to the park this afternoon
  • Martin will speak  after raising his hand
